What to Expect at Your Appointment:

After you arrive, report to registration. The sleep technician will show you to your room and begin preparing for your sleep study. This will take approximately 1-2 hours. After you have filled out paperwork and have changed into your night clothes, the technician will begin the hook-up process.

 

The hook-up process involves the technician placing a hypoallergenic adhesive agent and/or a conductive paste will be used to place electrodes on your head, face, chest, and legs. This test does not involve needles. At this time, you will be asked to remain in your room. You will be free to read or watch TV until your bed time. Your technician will request that you turn the room lights out by 11:00 p.m.

The sleep study generally stops between 5:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. the following morning. We will send your test to an interpreting board certified sleep physician. After the sleep study has been interpreted, the patient account specialists will fax the results to your referring physician. This process may take 5-7 business days.

10 things to remember on the 

On the Day of Your Study

  1. Refrain from taking any naps, or using caffeine after lunch.

  2. Bring loose fitting, comfortable pajamas/shorts & t-shirt/clothing.

  3. Bring all medications that you normally take during the night.  

  4. If you take medications for sleep, pain or muscle relaxants, please do not take them and drive.

  5. You may take them after the technician has finished getting you ready for study.

  6. Bring any food that you normally eat during the night.

  7. Please arrive freshly bathed, with your hair washed and free from any gel or hairspray. 

  8. Do not apply any make-up, lotions or moisturizers.

  9. Shave: females-legs, males-face.  It is not necessary to shave if you do not normally shave.

  10. Please arrive on time for your appointment.
